From individual carbon projects and credit transactions to portfolios, methodology questions and asset development, JSC provides independent technical analysis designed to turn complex carbon market information into clearer, more defensible decisions.

Project-level expertise across additionality, carbon accounting, permanence, MRV, methodologies, eligibility and carbon market integrity.

The Challenge

Carbon market decisions are becoming harder to defend

Carbon projects and credits are facing increasing scrutiny from buyers, investors, regulators, sustainability teams and internal decision-makers. At the same time, the evidence required to understand project quality and carbon integrity remains fragmented across methodologies, project documents, monitoring reports, registry information and changing market expectations.

For organizations making investment, procurement, development or commercialization decisions, the challenge is no longer simply whether a project is registered or credits have been issued. The question is whether the underlying assumptions, evidence and carbon claims remain technically defensible.

The Approach

Turn technical complexity into decision-ready carbon market insight

JSC combines carbon methodology expertise, project-level assessment, MRV experience and risk-based analysis to identify the issues that matter most for a carbon market decision.

The objective is not simply to summarize project documentation. It is to understand what the available evidence supports, where material uncertainty remains, which assumptions deserve closer scrutiny and what those findings mean for the decision at hand.

Evidence is assessed in context — across the project, methodology, monitoring system, market environment and intended use of the carbon asset.

Services

Specialized advisory across carbon integrity and climate assets

JSC supports carbon market participants at different points in the asset and decision lifecycle — from initial project or credit screening to deeper technical review, portfolio prioritization, methodology assessment and market strategy.

01

Carbon Integrity Advisory

Project & Credit Integrity Assessments

Structured, risk-based technical assessments of carbon projects, credits and issuances designed to identify material integrity risks, evidence gaps and decision-relevant issues.

Support may include Carbon Integrity Reports — CIR, Red Flag Reports, deeper project-level Integrity & Risk Assessments, credit defensibility analysis and targeted integrity reviews.

Typical questions: How defensible are the credits? Where are the material integrity risks? What assumptions require further evidence? What should be investigated before proceeding?

02

Carbon Portfolio Screening

Comparative screening of multiple carbon assets, projects or credit opportunities to help buyers, investors, funds and portfolio owners identify priority assets, material exposures and areas requiring deeper due diligence.

Support may include pipeline prioritization, comparative integrity screening, pre-due-diligence, procurement screening and portfolio risk analysis.

03

Carbon Asset Development Diagnostics

Technical assessment of whether a mitigation activity or climate project can become a credible, certifiable and commercially viable carbon asset.

Support may include methodology mapping, MRV readiness, data-gap analysis, carbon feasibility, certification exposure, commercialization risk and buyer or investor readiness.

04

MRV & Methodology Review

Independent technical review of the methodological and monitoring foundations supporting carbon claims.

Support may include baseline logic, additionality approaches, carbon accounting assumptions, monitoring architecture, methodology applicability, data quality, auditability and validation or verification readiness.

05

Carbon Markets & Climate Strategy Advisory

Strategic and technical advisory for organizations navigating evolving carbon markets and climate mitigation opportunities.

Support may include voluntary and compliance carbon markets, Article 6 readiness, carbon procurement, asset commercialization, methodology strategy, climate technology positioning and emerging integrity requirements.

Carbon Integrity Report — CIR

A structured, AI-assisted and expert-reviewed integrity assessment for existing carbon projects and credits

The Carbon Integrity Report — CIR is designed to help buyers, investors, brokers, portfolio owners, project developers and other market participants understand how defensible the carbon credits associated with a project are from an integrity perspective.

The CIR applies JSC's risk-based assessment framework to examine available project evidence, identify material integrity risks, test critical assumptions and highlight information gaps or questions requiring further investigation.

The core question

How defensible are the carbon credits associated with this project from an integrity perspective?

The assessment can consider issues such as additionality, carbon accounting, baseline assumptions, permanence, MRV robustness, methodology alignment, documentation quality, eligibility and potential over-crediting exposure, depending on the project type and decision context.

From Screening to Deeper Assessment

Start with the material red flags. Go deeper where the decision requires it.

A standard CIR engagement produces a structured Red Flag Report identifying the most material integrity issues, evidence gaps, assumptions and follow-up questions emerging from the assessment.

Where the decision requires greater depth, the work can be expanded into a Full Integrity & Risk Assessment, including more detailed evidence review, risk-driver analysis and project-level conclusions.

Built from project-level integrity work

From Red Flag assessment to a repeatable integrity workflow

AI assists the workflow. Expert judgement controls the assessment.

The CIR evolved from JSC's project-level Red Flag Report and carbon integrity assessment framework.

The original analytical approach was developed through detailed technical assessment of real carbon projects and subsequently structured into a more repeatable workflow capable of supporting consistent evidence review across projects.

AI-assisted processes are used to accelerate activities such as evidence organization, document analysis and structured comparison. Expert technical judgement remains central to the interpretation of evidence, risk assessment and final conclusions.

CIR Collaboration

Advancing the CIR with COMSU

The Carbon Integrity Report is currently being advanced in collaboration with COMSU, combining JSC's carbon integrity methodology and technical expertise with COMSU's ESG, sustainability and market-facing advisory capabilities.

The collaboration is intended to support the continued development, application and market deployment of the CIR while preserving the technical integrity of the underlying assessment framework.

The CIR is an integrity assessment and decision-support tool. It is not validation, verification, certification, a public carbon rating, legal opinion, financial audit or investment recommendation.

How JSC Works

Evidence first. Risk focused. Decision oriented.

Evidence-led

Assessments start from the evidence available — project documentation, methodologies, monitoring information, registry records, supporting data and relevant external context.

Materiality-focused

Not every technical issue has the same significance. JSC focuses on the assumptions, uncertainties and risks most likely to affect carbon integrity or the decision being made.

Structured, but project-specific

Repeatable analytical frameworks improve consistency, while project-specific evidence and circumstances determine the final assessment.

Expert-reviewed

Technical judgement remains central to interpreting evidence, challenging assumptions and distinguishing material risk from minor or theoretical issues.

AI-assisted where appropriate

AI can accelerate evidence extraction, comparison and structured analysis, but does not replace expert technical review or determine conclusions autonomously.

Carbon Integrity Assessment Framework

From project documentation to decision-relevant integrity findings.

JSC developed a structured, expert-led framework for assessing existing carbon projects and the defensibility of their associated credits. The approach combines controlled evidence review, red-flag identification, expert sensitivity analysis and risk-driver assessment across additionality, carbon accounting, permanence, MRV and cross-cutting integrity issues.

Developed through project-level Red Flag and integrity assessment work and tested across multiple landfill-methane project cases, the framework now provides the technical foundation for the Carbon Integrity Report.
